A Muslim's daily practice touches many small needs: accurate prayer times for where you are right now, the Quran with recitation and translation, Hadith and Dua collections, Qibla direction, Zakat, the Hijri calendar, Ramadan timings. Deen set out to cover all of them in one place, offline, without ads getting in the way of worship.
How it was built
A single Flutter codebase runs on Android, iOS, macOS, desktop and web. Node.js services on AWS (Lambda, ECS, EC2, S3) plus Firebase handle content delivery, the community forum and notifications through OneSignal. Prayer times are computed from location and calculation method on-device, so the app works with no connection. SQLite and Hive keep Quran, Hadith and user data local; GetX manages state.
What it does
- 01Accurate prayer times with forbidden-prayer periods, sunrise and sunset, and a real-time home-screen widget showing the Hijri date
- 02Full Quran by Surah, Juz, page and topic, with audio from renowned reciters, English and Bangla pronunciation, search, bookmarks and sharing
- 03Hifz tracker for memorisation by Surah, Ayah or Juz with progress tracking
- 04Hadith from Sahih Al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Sunan An-Nasa'i, Sunan Abi Dawud and Jami At-Tirmidhi
- 05Categorised Dua collection, Tasbih counter with Dhikr notes, Zakat calculator against the Nisab threshold
- 06Qibla compass, mosque locator, Islamic e-library with reading progress, Islamic community forum
- 07Ramadan Suhoor and Iftar schedules adjusted to location, multi-language UI, dark and light themes
Outcome
Over one million users combined across Android, iOS, macOS, desktop and web. On Google Play alone: 500K+ downloads and a 4.9-star average across 22,000+ reviews; 4.9 stars on the App Store. Reached #2 globally in the Lifestyle category during Ramadan and the top 30 apps on Google Play overall, with users in 146+ countries. Still maintained and shipping updates as a non-profit project.
What I took from it
Scaling a solo app past a million users taught more about content pipelines, offline-first data and notification reliability than any job could. Every millisecond of prayer-time accuracy matters to someone.
